The Medicine Hat Public School Division has published its Summer School Brochure with information on academic courses offered as well as diploma exam dates on its website.

The division will begin accepting applications May 11 for both junior and senior high school science, math, English and social studies courses that will be offered at host Alexandra Middle School.

High school courses are aimed at students looking to complete pre-requisite courses, upgrade existing marks or fast-track their high school program.

MHPSD says the courses include a heavy workload with daily homework and class periods of more than three hours. Daily in-person or virtual attendance is mandatory.

Junior high programs are for students who want to improve their knowledge of the basic concepts in a subject and are limited to space. Class periods are two hours long.

High school courses are scheduled to run daily from July 2-31, and junior high courses will be taught daily from July 13-31. Diploma exams for graduates will follow in early August.

Summer courses will be taught in small class sizes to ensure more one-on-one time between students and teachers. Students are required to provide their own Chromebook device.

Current MHPSD students will be able to register online beginning May 11 via the online PowerSchool parent portal, while students not currently enrolled in the division will have to register online.

Enrolments for high school courses for current MHPSD students are $60 per course and $130 per junior high program. Courses are $600 for adults and $1,200 for international students.
