MHPS receives more than 2,200 calls for service in February

Members of the Medicine Hat Police Commission on Wednesday were provided an update from the chief of police on calls for service officers responded to throughout February.

In total, MHPS received 2,224 calls for service in February, up more than 50 calls from January. Compared to February 2025, calls for mischief and break and enter were down, while calls for service such as theft for vehicles and fraud grew.

The Traffic Enforcement unit only issued two Immediate Roadside Sanction fails and only one driver was suspended of their licence.

The Municipal Enforcement Section responded to 577 calls for service, including 236 road safety calls, 103 animal control calls and seven reports of encampments.

The Downtown Patrol unit responded to a total of 94 calls for service, including calls for social disorder, and performed 12 mental health and wellbeing checks.

The Forensic Identification Unit filed 137 reports last month.

The K9 unit responded to six calls last month, including three building searches, while school resource officers handled a total of 1,794 duties.

The Victims Assistance Unit helped 75 people while the The Safe Families Intervention Team handled 101 total calls leading to 10 charges. The Family Crime Unit conducted 13 interviews and the Cyber Crime Unit analyzed nine devices.
