asmith@medicinehatnews.com Fifth Ave Memorial United Church is seeking detectives of all experience levels to help solve a crime most foul at their first Murder Mystery. “We have quite a few people that are involved in the (MH) Musical Theatre and Firehall and all that go to Fifth Ave,” said office administrator Piehl Wiedemann. An avid lover of murder mysteries herself, she says she has been thrilled to help organize the event since the idea was first broached in the fall of last year. Attendees will step into the fictionalized world of St. Frideswide’s Church Hall on March 28 at 7 p.m., to join usual visitors as they celebrate the church’s 750th anniversary with a fundraiser. However, not all is as it seems, and participants will soon be asked to deduce a murderer from a line of suspects in this interactive theatre experience. A prize will even be awarded to the group able to successfully pin the crime on the true culprit. “The first time we’ve done anything like this,” said Wiedemann. “I am a bit of a murder mystery nut, I’ve gone to quite a few in Calgary and it just dawned on me, why don’t we do our own? Everybody just jumped on board, it’s been wonderful.” This is a ticketed event, with the $20 per person charge also including coffee, tea, juice and dessert after the performance. Those interested are asked to visit the church office from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday to Thursday to purchase a spot, or call 403-526-2237 to reserve tickets. Anyone inclined to dress up, as is common in these shows for immersion, is advised the dress code is their 1950s Sunday best. 9
