With April around the corner, the Parkinson Association of Alberta is inviting everyone to stand together in support of those living with the disease. More than 15,000 people across the province are living with Parkinson’s disease, with tens of thousands more who love and support them, said the association. As part of this year’s awareness campaign, all Alberta residents are invited to participate in the month-long Sit ‘N Stand Challenge, which asks individuals, families, workplaces, schools and community groups to set a personal or team goal for how many sit-to-stands they can complete during April. The collective provincial goal is 500,000 sit and stands, symbolizing strength, movement and solidarity with those living with Parkinson’s. Throughout Parkinson Awareness Month, PAA will host a series of events and activities designed to raise awareness, inspire community connection and support vital programs and services. “Movement is incredibly important for people living with Parkinson’s,” says PAA. “The Sit ‘N Stand Challenge is a simple but fun way for our community and the public to show support for those living with PD, while raising awareness.” The association provides almost $2 million annually directly toward research and various needs to the Parkinson’s community in and across Alberta, and for the month of April is encouraging everyone to get involved in turn, be it through attending events, taking part in the challenge or making a donation.
