The City of Medicine Hat announced Monday it has hired a new managing director of corporate services and chief financial officer.

Mustansar Nadeem was selected for the role after a fulsome recruitment process, and will begin his tenure as CFO on May 4.

Nadeem has a Bachelor of Commerce from Mount Allison University, a Master’s in Business Administration from Laurentian University and is currently a doctoral candidate in business administration at Royal Roads University.

Nadeem brings an extensive array of experience in executive leadership and financial management to his new role with the city. He formerly served as CFO at Olds College in Saskatchewan and worked as an accountant in various industries, including at the Northwest Territories Power Corporation.

His most recent role prior to this move was as executive director with the Edmonton North Primary Care Network.

Interim city manager Joe Hutter describes Nadeem as possessing a calm, principled presence and a coaching mindset that he says will make him a valuable addition to the executive leadership team.

“We look forward to the extensive knowledge base and strategic and collaborative skillset that Mustansar brings to the role, along with two decades of leadership experience in complex public sector organizations,” said Hutter.

City director of finance Lola Barta has served as acting managing director of corporate services while a recruitment to fill the role permanently took place.

“I want to thank Lola for her support over the past several months. Her support ensured the corporate services division kept running smoothly,” said Hutter.
