newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Unison, which operates the Veiner Centre as well as the Kerby Centre in Calgary, will host its annual general meeting at the end of April. The meeting will include an address from president and CEO Larry Mathieson and cover the approval of the 2025 Unison Annual Report as well as a financial report for the year. An appointment of new board directors and re-appointment of existing board members will also occur, as well as the appointment of auditors. The AGM is scheduled for Apr. 22 and will be held from 10-11 a.m. at the Unison Kerby Centre in Calgary. Members are able to vote during the meeting, however all voting is only done in person at the AGM in Calgary. The AGM can also be attended online, however voting is not permitted for online viewers. Venier Centre members can now register to attend the AGM in person or online by visiting unisonalberta.com/agm. Tax support Outreach officers from the Canada Revenue Agency and Service Canada will visit the Veiner Centre on Mar. 17 to assist seniors with taxes and income questions. The free drop-in clinic is designed to provide support for My Service Canada Accounts, CRA accounts, tax questions and tax slips, old age security, Canada Pension Plan, employment insurance, social insurance numbers, disability benefits and GST and HST credits. Officers will be able to help update address and contact information as well as the Canadian Dental Care Plan. There is no registration required for the drop-in clinic that will run in the South MP Room from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Senior safety series This month the Unison at Veiner Centre will host another free workshop on common frauds and scams and ways to protect and prevent becoming a victim. The workshop coincides with Fraud Prevention Month and will focus on how to recognize warning signs during a fraud and how to react. Experts with Alberta Rural Crime Watch Association, the Better Business Bureau and RBC Wealth Management will be speaking during the workshop. The free workshop will be held in the North MP Room on Mar. 19 from 9:30 a.m. to noon and will include complimentary drinks and snacks as well as door prize draws. To register, call 403-529-8307, or visit the reception desk. ‘Upcycle’ painters The Veiner Centre is looking for artists and hobbyists to join its “Art Rescuers” upcycling painting group that gives new life to older items. The group encourages members to bring their own projects and supplies, like an old pair of jeans, books, furniture and re-used canvas and transform them into something new and unique. “Bring a project you’d like to transform and enjoy an afternoon of creativity, conversation and inspiration with others who love making something new out of the old,” reads promotional material.
