The RCMP is asking Canadian kids to suggest names for this year’s class of police dog puppies.

The Police Dog Service Training Centre in Innisfail, Alberta is looking for help naming 13 German Shepherd puppies that will be born at the centre this year.

Every year, the RCMP asks children to come up with original and imaginative names that will serve the puppies into their careers with Canada’s national police force.

This year, the RCMP is asking youth to suggest names starting with the letter “B.”

There are a few ground rules guiding the name selection. Contestants can only suggest one name, and the name must be one or two syllables and no more than nine letters.

Eligible contestants must be four to 14 years old and reside in Canada.

The RCMP also reminds contestants that the name must be appropriate for a working police dog, not a pet.

Winners will receive a laminated photo of the pup they name, a plush dog and an RCMP water bottle.

Last year, chosen names included Argo, Alfie and Anouk. One name was chosen from the submissions made by kids in each of the 10 provinces and three territories. Winners are selected by PDSTC staff.

Names not chosen as contest winners may be considered for other puppies born later in the year.

The Name the Puppy Contest closes oMar. 26. Submissions can be made at https://rcmp.ca/en/police-dogs/name-puppy-contest. Winners will be announced in late April.
