newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Next week the Unison at Veiner Centre is partnering with Medicine Hat Family Services to host a workshop aimed at helping participants find peace of mind. “Letting Go: Feeling Stuck in your Thoughts?” will explore practical ways to help find more calm during day-to-day routine and techniques to help feel more grounded. “If your thoughts have been feeling heavy or hard to quiet, this gentle afternoon session offers space to pause, breathe and reset,” reads an overview. The workshop runs Feb. 25 in the boardroom from 2:15-3:30 p.m., and registration is required. To register call 403-529-8307, or visit the reception desk. March fitness classes At the beginning of March the Veiner Centre will host a series of all-level fitness classes twice a week designed to focus on lower- and upper-body fitness. Every Tuesday and Thursday from Mar. 3 to Apr. 23 the Veiner Centre will host a series of supportive and welcoming classes designed to improve mobility and boost overall fitness. The “All Level Fitness” classes will be held by fitness expert Marla Howard and will include a mix of strength, cardio and mobility exercises. Howard will demonstrate different levels of exercises to allow participants to choose their own pace. “Proper form and movement mechanics will always be shown and there are always options for varying levels of fitness,” reads an overview. Tuesday classes will focus on upper-body workouts while Thursdays will concentrate on lower-body workouts. The fitness classes run each Tuesday and Thursday from 4:15 to 5 p.m. in the Strathcona Centre, and registration for all classes is $112 for members and $160 for non-members. Curling bus trip planned for March Later in March the Veiner Centre is hosting an all-day bus trip to Calgary to watch Team Canada take on Team Austria in the 2026 BKT World Women’s Curling Championship. Staff say spaces are limited for the bus tour on Mar. 20 that will provide participants a round trip to the Winsport Event Centre at Canada Olympic Park, as well as tickets to watch the draw. The bus will leave prior to 9:45 a.m. from Medicine Hat and is expected to return at 10 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in person at the Veiner Centre, or online, and are priced at $80 for members and $90 for non-members. Free tax clinic The Veiner Centre’s free tax clinic opens Wednesday and appointments can still be booked. The clinic is open for individuals who are at least 50 years old and have an individual income limit of $40,000 a year, or $55,000 as a couple. The clinic is also open to AISH clients. Volunteers will be on hand to help seniors and AISH clients fill out their income tax returns at no charge, and are trained to make sure clients are qualifying for all senior benefits offered by the province, as well as securing GST rebates.
