Provincial government touts progress made though community grant programs

By medicinehatnews on February 20, 2026.

The province released a statement Thursday highlighting strides made in communities due to $64 million invested in Community Facility Enhancement Program and Community Initiatives Program grants in the past year.

These grants allow for non-profit organizations to create jobs, deliver services, improve facilities and strengthen communities, as well as potentially provide essential supports for thousands of Albertans.

“Non-profits are the heart of strong, thriving and resilient communities. Our community grant programs help ensure organizations have the tools and facilities they need to keep making a difference and continue building stronger, safer and more welcoming communities across Alberta,” said Minister of Culture Tanya Fir.

CFEP assists organizations in building, renovating and improving public-use facilities such as community halls, cultural centres and recreational spaces, while CIP supports one-time projects, initiatives and events that engage Albertans and strengthen community life.

Since 2019, Alberta’s government has awarded more than 5,700 community grants to support non-profits across the province, for organizations such as Calgary Meals on Wheels, Medicine Hat Musical Theatre and the Shortgrass Library Board for various projects and initiatives.

The province has received 812 CIP project applications to date in 2025-26.
