In the wake of one of the country’s deadliest mass shootings in Tumbler Ridge, B.C., the City of Medicine Hat is collecting letters and cards of condolence to be sent to Tumbler Ridge city council next week.

During a public council meeting Tuesday night, Mayor Linnise Clark expressed her sympathies for the small community of Tumbler Ridge, approximately 1,200 kilometres northwest of Medicine Hat near the northern Alberta border.

“Our hearts go out to them,” said Clark, who announced council will send a letter of condolence to councillors in Tumbler Ridge on Feb. 23, and welcomed anyone in the community to join in.

“We thought it would be even more meaningful and it would be a good opportunity for our community as well. If they have any condolences they want to offer or messages that they want to send to the community of Tumbler Ridge, please feel free to drop off letters, cards.

Hatters can drop off a letter or a card in person at the City Clerk’s office, located on the third floor of city hall, during normal operation hours before noon on Monday.

“Just cognizant of the fact that people in our community are probably wondering how they can reach out and offer some solace to the people of that community,” said Clark.

Condolence letters can also be emailed to the city at clerk.medicinehat.ca.
