RCMP in Brooks and Bassano have recently conducted another “Operation Street Sweep” in a continued effort to enhance public safety by holding offenders accountable and focusing efforts to locate wanted persons on warrants.
Mounties began conducting the operation Jan. 29, and as a result issued 12 outstanding warrants on eight individuals, two of whom were held for bail hearings and transported in custody to remand.
Additionally, RCMP issued 24 traffic tickets, 17 traffic warnings and conducted 11 compliance checks on persons bound by court conditions.
Brooks officers also conducted several proactive foot patrols in back alleys and in the downtown sector speaking with several business owners about crime reduction measures and police priorities.
Staff Sgt. Robert Harms of Brooks says the operation continues to be a key component of local crime reduction strategies.
“This operation, like the prior, netted positive results and demonstrated the effectiveness of the RCMP and our valued partners working together ensuring safe and secure communities,” said Harms.
Last summer in July, RCMP members from Redcliff, Brooks and the County of Newell Enforcement Peace Officers issued a total of 38 traffic tickets and arrested three individuals with outstanding warrants in the first “Operation Street Sweep.”
“Once again, Operation Street Sweep was success within Bassano detachment utilizing our partnership with Brooks detachment, County of Newell and Brooks Peace Officers,” said Sgt. Joe Schmidt, Bassano commander. “Holding our prolific offenders and citizens with outstanding warrants accountable to follow the judicial process, this was a cohesive effort between all our partners and further initiatives will continue to ensure compliance and keep our communities safer.”
