A popular speaker on parenting and champion of the slow-living movement is delivering a talk at the Medicine Hat High School Theatre next month.
Carl Honoré is a broadcaster, an author and two-time TED Talks speaker whose work explores how a slower approach to living can transform family life.
He was described by the Globe and Mail as the “global guru” of the Slow Movement, an approach to parenting and education that advocates for putting on the brakes. His keynotes have drawn more than 10 million views online.
Originally from Edmonton, Honoré will come to the Hat on Feb. 9 to deliver a keynote called “Helping Children Thrive in a Fast World: Building Resilience, Purpose and Joy.”
From technology and education to extracurricular overload, Honoré’s talk will share practical insights to help Alberta parents support children in reaching their full potential.
Honoré says that in a fast-paced, competitive world, children thrive when we make room for slowness.
The talk is geared toward parents and teachers, but contains a little something for all community members interested in learning more about making space in their own lives.
This event is sponsored by the Alberta Teacher’s Association.
The event will begin with a reception at 6 p.m., with a public lecture from 6:30-7:30 and a Q&A portion from 7:30-8 p.m.
Tickets are $10 per person, or $30 for four. Seating is limited.
