Nature walk in early February to focus on aquatic animals

By Medicine Hat News on January 28, 2026.

Those curious about aquatic animals when there’s ice in the water are invited down to Police Point Park for a program surrounding wintering fish.

The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program will take participants on an hour-long walk on Feb 4, starting at 11 a.m.

“We’ll discuss winter adaptations of aquatic animals, the different species that have been identified in the river, and the threats that their populations face,” said park interpreter Erika Derman. “Participants are encouraged to bring enthusiasm and expertise about the South Saskatchewan River!”

This program is made possible in part thanks to the Land Stewardship Centre of Canada, and marks the final installation in the Watershed Wednesdays series. There is no registration required and the program is free to attend.
