newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Police have arrested Simon Lilley, 50, charging him with several offences relating to two recent residential break-and-enter investigations in the city. The first break-and-enter occurred Jan. 17 when police responded to a call at a home in the 100 block of Ewart Crescent. At the time of the break-in, the homeowner was away and it was later determined the offence occurred during the early morning hours of Jan. 16. Police say a significant quantity of property was stolen including currency, collectible coins, precious metals and sports memorabilia estimated to be worth $150,000. Two days later on Jan. 19 police were called to the second residential break-and-enter at a home in the 0 block of East Glen Place. At the time the homeowner was out of the country and an acquaintance checking on the residence discovered the break-in. Police say entry was made through a basement window and the interior of the home was significantly disturbed. Several items were stolen including collectable action figures, a jar of coins and a robotic vacuum. Throughout the course of the investigation police identified Lilley as the suspect, and on Tuesday members of the Criminal Investigation Section obtained a search warrant for a residence on Carswell Road. During the search of Lilley’s residence police recovered property believed to be connected to the break-and-enters, and as a result officers charged Lilley with several offences including break-and-enter and commit theft, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000, possession of a stolen credit card, possession of a controlled substance and possession of identity documents. As the investigation is ongoing, additional charges may be laid against Lilley as further evidence is examined. Lilley was remanded in custody following a bail hearing Wednesday before he is scheduled to appear before the court Jan. 28. 14
