Next month the Medicine Hat Catholic Board of Education will celebrate Inclusive Education Month within its schools and recognize support staff who make a difference.

February marks a time to promote creative learning environments and raise awareness on the importance of inclusion for students with diverse learning needs, disabilities and backgrounds, MHCBE says.

The school division says inclusive education reflects the sacred dignity of students and is profoundly aligned with Catholic Social Teaching.

“As Catholic educators and support staff, we are called to embrace inclusive practices and create environments and opportunities where all students can grow into the fullness of who they are called to be,” reads a statement.

Throughout the month the school division will share highlights on social media to celebrate people in various support roles who open opportunities to enhance student education.

This will include posts on the division’s school therapists, specialists, learning assistants and learning support teachers, as well as school counsellors and mental health workers.

The goal is to raise awareness on learning principles and supports that provide a foundation for creating an educational environment where every student feels welcomed and supported.
