The Medicine Hat Interpretive Program is taking a closer look at the local flora in the second-to-last instalment of the Watershed Explorers series.

The series, aimed at children aged six to 12, has covered various aspects of the local watershed over the course of several programs, from wildlife to water quality. Participants earn a different badge for attending each program and will win a prize for collecting all six.

This upcoming instalment, “Plants of Our Watershed” on Feb. 1 at 2 p.m, will focus on the native plants found in the area.

“We will discover the role plants play in our ecosystem, learn some practical identification skills and talk about some of the traditional ways that people make use of plants,” said park interpreter Genevieve Mathieu.

As space is limited, registration is required to participate in the program. Youths must be accompanied by an adult and participants are encouraged to dress for the weather.

For more information or to secure a space, those interested are encouraged to call 403-529-6225 or visit the Nature Centre.
