Left Coast Organics brand chia seeds have been recalled due to possible salmonella contamination. Organic chia seeds with the best before dates of Nov. 13 and Nov. 14 are currently listed as the affected product. Consumers are warned that contaminated seeds may not look or taste off, but can still be dangerous. Those who have recently purchased chia seeds from this brand are encouraged to check their product to see if it is in the relevant batch and dispose of any potentially contaminated seeds. Those who believe they may have fallen ill due to consuming contaminated seeds are advised to contact their health-care provider. Young children, pregnant women, the elderly and people with weakened immune systems may contract serious and sometimes deadly infections from salmonella. Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms such as fever, headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal cramps and diarrhea, with the risk of long-term complications such as severe arthritis.
