Medicine Hat College is hosting its annual large-scale job fair next week featuring career opportunities for residents as well as summer positions and internships for students.

Last year the annual Community Job Fair attracted a full house of 60 exhibitor booths, the maximum available, operated by recruiters and industry representatives looking to fill a variety of full-time and part-time positions.

Each year the job fair attracts hundreds of job seekers, many of whom attend with resumés ready to distribute, looking for new opportunities and soon to be graduating students attending the college.

“This event is designed to offer something for everyone,” said Shelly Drefs, career services assistant. “The organizations already registered represent a wide range of industries and it’s a great opportunity for attendees to get a good idea of the types of jobs they are qualified for in a more casual and low-stress environment.”

Jobseekers are encouraged to come prepared with questions, resumés and a willingness to network, and typically some employers use the opportunity to conduct on-the-spot interviews while others are able to provide details about their hiring process and direct applicants to submit resumés online.

“Networking is an important part of finding any job, and the Community Job Fair is the perfect opportunity to make a great first impression,” adds Drefs.

Representatives with the MHC Career and Employment Centre are also available to help students and alumni with resumé support and interview practice prior to the job fair by online appointment.

Jobseekers are invited to drop in to the Community Job Fair on Wednesday, Jan. 21 in Centennial Hall and the B-Wing hallway from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
