New art exhibits will soon be on display at both the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre and city hall, showcasing talent from locally-based to across the nation.
Tonight the Esplanade hosts a public reception showcasing the drawings, painting, photography, sculptures and several more mediums for the Art and Design Faculty at Medicine Hat College.
The exhibition will showcase the work of six artists including local artists Deborah Forbes, Kimberly Sibbald, Robert Weissmann and Inuit artist Pudlo Pudlat, as well as TREX artist Sadia Fakih.
The exhibitions are titled “Sea Jellies,” “Art is life,” “Chimerical Alchemical,” “Celestial Visions: A journey through the cosmos” and “Between today and yesterday.”
The public reception begins at 7 p.m. at the Esplanade and will include a cash bar and live music by Derek Hintz.
Artists will also be on hand to provide in-depth insight into their exhibition.
City hall photography
Forty-four photographs by local shutterbugs are being used in a new permanent display throughout city hall.
The collection was created by 43 local photographers who are members of the Medicine Hat Photography Club, and have been purchased to be showcased throughout city hall alongside more than 1,000 other works of art already on display.
Photographs include views on Kin Coulee Pond, images of bald eagles, Indigenous warrior portrayals and other landscapes, wildlife and local festivals.
“Each piece reflects the beauty and spirit of southeastern Alberta,” reads a press release.
A total of 43 photographers’ work is featured including Kyle Marchand, Terry Knodel and Dianna Finch. Seven members of CORE’s photography group are also among those featured in the exhibit.
