The City of Medicine Hat has released a public announcement warning residents of door-to-door salespersons offering financing, incentives and rebates for home energy upgrades.

City staff say they have received reports of solicitors in other communities making unauthorized claims to guarantees related to the Clean Energy Improvement Program, particularly relating to solar upgrades.

Medicine Hat is part of the CEIP, which operates throughout municipalities across the province, and staffers have provided regulations for residents to consider if approached by a solicitor.

The CEIP does not allow third parties to complete and submit applications on your behalf, all applications for the Clean Energy Improvement Program must be completed by the property owner.

“Exercise caution when responding to advertisements or sale representatives, particularly those that ask you for personal information or guarantee financing or energy savings,” reads a release.

The city says it does not sell property owners any upgrades like solar panels, home insulation or windows, as the CEIP acts as a financing tool available through the municipality.

Homeowners are encouraged to request multiple quotes for any upcoming projects and make sure to work with a CEIP qualified contractor.

Questions about the application process can be answered by contacting the city’s CEIP office at 403-529-8244, or via email at hello@myceip.ca, and a list of CEIP qualified contractors can be found at myceip.ca.
