newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com It is a census year in 2026 and Medicine Hat-Cardston-Warner MP Glen Motz is encouraging Hatters to apply for temporary Statistics Canada positions. Statistics Canada announced Monday it will hire 32,000 workers nationwide to support the delivery of this year’s census. Available opportunities include enumerator and crew leader positions, which involve working directly with the public to collect census information. Enumerators collect completed census questionnaires from households through door-to-door visits. Enumerators must be available to work a minimum of 20 hours per week during the employment period May to July. Crew leaders will lead and supervise an assistant and a team of enumerators, supervising and training the team responsible for door-to-door visits. Crew leaders must be available to work 40 hours per week including days, evenings and weekends during the employment period March to July. Compensation is $25.87 per hour for enumerators and $31.32 per hour for crew leaders, plus authorized expenses like mileage and parking. Eligible applicants will be 18 or older and hold either Canadian citizenship, permanent residency or a valid work permit. Applicants must also have a Canadian home address. “Individuals seeking employment are encouraged to apply for positions with Statistics Canada for the upcoming Census,” said Motz. “If you enjoy connecting with people and want to make a meaningful contribution to your community, applications are now being accepted for enumerator and crew leader positions. “These roles are essential to ensuring accurate and reliable census data for communities across Canada.” Interested individuals are encouraged to apply online at http://www.census.gc.ca/jobs. 12
