newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Two more outdoor rinks in the city got ice this week, expanding the opportunity for outdoor winter fun in the Hat. Jeffries Park and Southlands Park rinks were added to the roster of outdoor skating surfaces on Wednesday. At the time of publication, 10 outdoor rinks were open and operational across the city, with reports as of Wednesday indicating that ice quality was good at all 10. Three outdoor ponds, at Celebration Park, Leinweber Park and Southridge Park, were also reporting good ice quality. There is currently no usage on the ice surfaces at River Heights Park and Upland Park. With a weekend of warm weather ahead, Hatters can consult the City of Medicine Hat Parks and Recreation webpage to stay up to date on rink closures and ice quality reports. Residents are also advised to consult signage at the skating surface location for more information before using the ice. Ponds are not safe to skate on unless the ice is a minimum of six inches thick. 9
