A free workshop series aimed to inspire Hatters to become an active part of improving community wellbeing continues next Thursday online.

Teaming up with Volunteer Alberta, the city is hosting a free volunteerism learning series called “Rotted in Action – volunteerism learning series,” through a total of five in-person and virtual workshops, each covering a unique theme.

Next Thursday the third session of the series continues with a focus on youth civic engagement and the organizations that facilitate youth engagement.

The free webinar will discuss general practices and success stories and explore how involvement strengthens outcomes through shared practices from attending organizations.

The webinar is aimed at people who support youth as service providers or community schools and clubs. and runs via Microsoft Teams from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Jan. 15. Registration details can be found on the city’s website.

According to staff, last year Hatters volunteered a total of 24,022 hours at events and programming offered at the Esplanade Arts & Heritage Centre, Big Marble Go Centre, adopt-a-rink programs and several other community events.

“These incredible stats are a testament to the passionate volunteers in Medicine Hat,” reads a press release. “And they reflect just how vital volunteers are to our community.”

Staff say 2025 total volunteer hours equates to 6,859 shifts of work.
