The province launched a webpage Tuesday dedicated to the proposed oil pipeline to the northwest coast.

The webpage is designed to be a central hub for project information and updates. It will feature information about ongoing engagement with Indigenous communities and the expedited process underway to seek approval from the federal Major Projects Office.

In a statement released Tuesday, the province says the initial phase of the project is focused on Indigenous consultation, determining a potential pipeline route and demonstrating market demand and economic viability.

The province has committed to acting as a proponent to deliver a submission of a pipeline project to the Major Projects Office. No private-sector proponents have emerged to support the project to date.

“This new webpage is more than a resource – it’s a commitment to transparency. Indigenous communities are helping guide the way on this project from day one, and access to clear, factual information ensures their leadership continues to shape every step,” said Minister of Indigenous Relations Rajan Sawhney.

“By sharing knowledge openly, we strengthen trust, create opportunities and build a future where Indigenous voices guide progress for all people in Canada.”

The application for the pipeline will be ready to submit to the MPO on or before July 1, 2026.

Enbridge, South Bow and Trans Mountain are currently participating in a technical advisory group.

The net export receipts of crude oil have climbed from $6 billion in 2000 to $130 billion in 2024. The province says additional infrastructure from Alberta to British Columbia’s coast would contribute to meeting significant demand from Asian countries like Japan, Korea, China and India.

British Columbia’s Premier David Eby has repeatedly expressed his opposition to building new oil pipelines through northern B.C.
