Pecha Kucha Night returns to the Esplanade on Jan. 17

By Medicine Hat News on January 7, 2026.

Pecha Kucha Night Medicine Hat has announced the first event of the year, set for Jan. 17.

The event aims to start the year off strong with a varied list of speakers, including a social worker reconnecting adults with play, a soldier who served in Afghanistan and is now a mental health therapist, a mother who became a parent overnight through adoption and a hiker who spent 162 days on the Pacific Crest Trail, among others.

The event will follow the usual method for information, in which each speaker is given 20 slides and 20 seconds per slide to share on a topic of their choice.

Those interested in listening in are encouraged to simply show up at the Esplanade at 7 p.m., on a first come, first seated basis. There is no cost associated with the event, but those with the means are encouraged to donate $5 to help cover costs. Refreshments will be available for purchase.
