As the city continues to search for a new city manager following the termination of Ann Mitchell in October, Joseph Hutter, who is the city’s managing director of public services, has been appointed to fill the role on the interim.
Councillors on Monday voted unanimously in favour of Hutter’s appointment until March 31.
Hutter will relieve Tarolyn Asserud of her temporary role filling in as city manager since Mitchell was first placed on leave last summer. This allows Asserud to return to her role as city clerk and returning officer with the city.
Hutter moved to Medicine Hat in the fall of 2024 to assume his role of director of public services on Oct. 1, replacing Brian Stauth, who served with the city following a lengthy career with the Medicine Hat Fire and Emergency Services.
Before accepting the position in Medicine Hat, Hutter had served as CAO with the Town of Nobleford since 2021, and also holds a Masters in Public Policy from the University of Calgary.
