Terri Clark, the Medicine Hat-born country singer, was named to the Order of Canada on Wednesday.

The Order of Canada is the nation’s highest honorific designation, conferred by Governor General Mary Simon.

The order is composed of three levels: members, officers and companions. Members represent the introductory level in the order.

Eighty individuals composed this year’s class of appointees. The individuals selected were recognized for their excellence in all sectors of Canadian society, including medicine, academia, athletics and the arts.

In a statement, Governor General Simon said Clark, who now splits time between London, Ont. and Nashville, has left an indelible mark on the country music genre at home and abroad.

“Her trailblazing career inspires countless Canadian artists, opening doors for international recognition and elevating the country music landscape across borders,” said Simon.

Simon also highlighted Clark as the first female Canadian inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, an honour Clark received in 2004.

Clark is joined by Olympic sprinter Andre de Grasse and the music journalist and celebrity interviewer Nardwuar the Human Serviette.
