newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Brooks RCMP say preliminary investigations reveal that black ice, blowing snow and poor visibility played a major factor in the cause of a fatal collision between a semi-truck and SUV on Thursday afternoon near Scandia. The driver of the SUV, a 66-year-old resident of Vauxhall, was pronounced deceased upon first responder arrival at approximately 1:15 p.m. at the scene located on Highway 36 near Township Road 154. Mounties say due to inclement weather conditions on the highway, the SUV collided with one of the trailers from the semi-truck which had drifted over the median. The highway has since reopened for travel. Since early Thursday, southeast Alberta has been under a moderate impact level snowfall warning by Environment Canada. Snow is expected to taper off Saturday morning and temperatures are expected to warm considerably on Sunday. 7
