The Medicine Hat Public SchoolDivision says a focus on four universal goals was reflected in its 2025 annual education report, which shows the division remained stable in its diploma exam results while reporting more positive teacher-student relations.

Last year 81.7 per cent of graduates scored within the ‘acceptable standard,’ which matches the previous three-year average, but reported a slight decline of students who scored in the excellence standard. That fell less than one point to 15.5 per cent.

According to MHPSD’s annual Education Results Report, both the Grade 9 acceptable and excellence standard in Provincial Achievement Tests remain as top priorities within the division for need for improvement.

“The 2025 PAT results underscore the importance of aligning learner progressions within and across school sites to build on students’ prior knowledge and enhance their subject area skills,” reads the report.

The division says it strengthened its commitment to fostering inclusivity and enhancing student connection and belonging. According to the report several student groups have indicated they experience more positive teacher-student relations compared to the previous year.

The MHPSD also received its highest satisfaction levels in five years regarding access to services beyond regular instruction, according to the AEA survey completed by parents and guardians.

The report also highlighted the success of the 76 Hockey and Ringette Academy and Red Rock Mountain Bike Club.

The division also scored higher than the provincial average in categories such as education quality, student learning outcomes, professional learning and overall parent and teacher satisfaction that schools have improved.

However, MHPSD has scored below the provincial average in Rutherford Scholarship eligibility and overall parent satisfaction with involvement in decisions about their child’s education.

Overall, MHPSD has a total student enrolment of 6,832, with 631 First Nations, Métis and Inuit students, and employs 351 full-time teachers and 238 full-time support staff.

In Alberta the annual Education Results Report provides the public documents where schools and their divisions report on their performance, finances and progress toward goals, using data from provincial tests and surveys.
