City crews will perform snow removal on more than 70 kilometres of hard-surface trails within its more than 190-kilometre trail system during the winter months.
On Friday, the city said crews will work over the weekend to clear up to 30 kilometres deemed as higher-use trails, following the recent snow flurries in Medicine Hat.
Snow removal on trails has a different standard than sidewalk snow removal, as trails designated for snow clearing are made passable within 72 hours, however city staff say this standard is exceeded after most snowfalls.
“We unfortunately can’t clear these trails instantly,” reads Friday’s ‘Neat to Know.’ “But, once the snow falls, know our crews are hard at work to make the beautiful trail system in our community safe to enjoy.”
Crews remind residents once trails are cleared that there is always a possibility of slippery sections during inclement weather and ask trail users to be aware of conditions and obey all signage and any potential barricades.
