The Medicine Hat News Santa Claus Fund’s biggest fundraiser of the year is taking over DayzOff Pub on Thursday.
The annual Santa Claus Fund Charity Auction will take place from 4 p.m. to midnight.
Generous Hatters and southern Albertans come together each year to donate toys and money to directly support children and families at the charity auction.
The Santa Claus Fund provides toys, stocking stuffers and a Christmas dinner to low-income local families every Holiday Season.
The fundraiser is celebrating its 39th year of bringing holiday joy to Hatters in need. Executive director Deanna Doerksen says the charity has raised well over $1 million over the years.
Last year’s event alone raised just shy of $42,000.
Previous years have seen more than 300 items available for bid at the auction. Items on offer at this year’s event include jewelry, a sleigh full of liquor, an original carving by local artist Marlena Cole and, of course, plenty of toys.
“We always say, you’re not going to the auction to buy something, you’re going to make a donation. It’s always all about the kids,” said Doerksen.
