RCMP issued a public service announcement Monday reminding motorists to reduce speeds and remain moving at a safe speed when encountering emergency vehicles or active emergency scenes on the road.

Mounties say the public service announcement has been issued due to recent events where motorists have stopped to observe emergency scenes, creating dangerous conditions for other motorists and the potential to cause a secondary collision.

“Not only does this behaviour slow response efforts, but it also increases the risk of secondary collisions and diverts first responders’ attention away from the primary incident,” reads the statement.

Motorists are reminded to reduce their speeds but “keep moving” and give first responders the space they need to work safely and efficiently to save lives.

Bale fire

Friday evening firefighters from Brooks along with the RCMP were quick to respond to a large hay bale fire in a barn which was fully engulfed in flames.

At approximately 8:45 p.m. firefighters were called to the large fire on Township Road 190 and Range Road 142 with the assistance from firefighters from Dutchess, Patericia, Rolling Hills and Tilly.

The fire, which presented no threat to the public, was monitored by a command centre set up on scene until it had burned itself out due to the number of bales involved.

RCMP remained on scene to provide traffic control. There is now no danger to the public.
