A free workshops series aimed to inspire Hatters to become an active part of improving community wellbeing continues Monday in-person at the Esplanade Arts and Heritage Centre and will focus on screening volunteers.

Teaming up with Volunteer Alberta, the city is hosting a free volunteerism learning series called “Rooted in Action – volunteerism learning series,” through a total of five in-person and virtual workshops, each covering a unique theme.

On Monday, participants will be provided the opportunity to explore processes with the support from Volunteer Alberta facilitators who will help them improve and reduce barriers when on-boarding volunteers.

Earlier in November the series kicked off with an online workshop focused on the value of building strong relations with people who choose to spend their time volunteering.

The workshop explored the values of volunteerism, including how acts of volunteerism strengthen the community in a variety of ways.

Participants were also provided tips and tools on ways to support volunteers and engage others to get active, as well as common sense implementations around recruiting and screening.

The in-person workshop is free, however registration is required. The workshop is scheduled to start at 9:30 a.m. and is expected to run until noon.

In January the series will continue with its third workshop titled “Youth Engagement Matters” which is free and will be held over Microsoft Teams on Jan. 15 from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

You can visit the city’s website for registration details.
