asmith@medicinehatnews.com A tradition over a century old, the Medicine Hat Interpretive Centre is looking for young citizen scientists for their annual Christmas Bird Count. “The tradition of the annual Christmas Bird Count dates back to 1900 and is the longest-standing citizen science project in North America. Now, even budding bird enthusiasts can participate in the fun with the Christmas Bird Count for Kids,” said park interpreter Genevieve Mathieu. Those participating in the event on Dec. 14, will attend a family-friendly nature walk and look for local birds, using tools such as binoculars and simple photo identification guides. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own binoculars and dress for the weather. To register for this free program, call the Nature Centre at 403-529-6225. The program will meet in front of the centre at 10 a.m. on Dec. 14. 6
