Alberta’s government has committed nearly $6 million to help prevent, interrupt and respond to family violence.

The Taking Action on Family Violence grant program is supporting 26 community organizations, including $152,614 provided to the Bridges Family Programs Association of Southeastern Alberta.

“Healthy families are the bedrock of our communities and that is why it is so important to support organizations like Bridges Family Programs Association of Southeastern Alberta,” said Cypress-Medicine Hat MLA Justin Wright. “They focus on connecting children, youth and families to information, family support and community resources. This funding helps to support the work of these incredible individuals as they aim to build stronger, healthier and more unified families.”

This investment reinforces the province’s commitment to supporting victims of gender-based violence and promoting awareness during Family Violence Prevention Month and the globally recognized 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-based Violence campaign, the United Conservative Caucus said in a news release.

“This grant advances the work of our 10-Year Strategy to End Gender-Based Violence, helping ensure every Albertan can live a life free from harm,” Minister of Arts, Culture and Status of Women Tanya Fir said. “During the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence, we reaffirm our commitment to helping survivors find safety and rebuild their lives.”
