Mounties say no one was injured after a vehicle parked on the railway tracks behind city hall in Brooks was struck by a train last Thursday evening.

The incident occurred during the “Christmas in the Park” event, and Mounties say the unoccupied vehicle was hit by the train shortly before 7:50 p.m.

The driver was issued tickets for parking within 50 metres of a controlled railway crossing, as well as trespassing, and the vehicle was removed from the scene by a tow truck.

Brooks man arrested after evading officers

Additionally last Thursday, RCMP in Brooks arrested a 23-year-old man with outstanding warrants after he tried to flee from officers on foot on two separate occasions.

Brooks city peace officers first conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle with mismatched licence plates and during the investigation the driver fled the scene on foot at 2:45 p.m.

Hours later the suspect was seen by an off-duty Mountie on the north end of Brooks, and when on-duty officers responded and located the male he took off on foot again, however officers were able to arrest the man after a short pursuit.

The man was wanted on outstanding warrants and was also charged with obstruction of a peace officer.
