newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com As Brooks continues to strengthen its local economy and build more housing units to meet demand, builders and developers are invited to attend an annual roundtable discussion held by the Brooks Newell Region Economic Development on Dec. 4. The three-hour event will feature local developers and businesses and will include updates from that city’s Planning and Community Development team. It will focus on discussions and development and challenges faced by local builders, as well as insights into current market trends, and the City of Brooks will collect feedback to help shape future initiatives. Following the roundtable, participants are invited to attend a networking meet and greet with community stakeholders, realtors, contractors, tradespeople, suppliers and equipment rental businesses. The free event runs from 3-6 p.m. on Dec. 4 at the Heritage Inn Hotel and Convention Centre and will include coffee, tea and light snacks. Since late 2023, the city has worked with developers to strengthen economic development by an additional 330 housing units that have been completed or are currently underway. Most recently, the city’s municipal planning commission approved a development application for a new duplex and approved a one-year extension for a development permit for mixed-use residential-commercial development on the east side. 9
