newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Members of CUPE Local 829 who represent educational support staff for the Medicine Hat Public School Division are collecting new pyjamas for families seeking the services of the Medicine Hat Women’s Shelter Society Phoenix Safe House this Holiday Season. The Bring a Child a Smile Campaign runs from Dec. 1-19 and is asking anyone who is able to drop off a new pair of PJs in all sizes to the MHPSD central office. “CUPE Local 829 believes that being able to put on a new pair of pyjamas after experiencing devastating fear and uncertainty can help children feel comforted and valued,” reads a release. Families who seek temporary shelter at the Phoenix Safe House often flee violent and abusive homes with very little of their possessions. The safe house recently reopened its doors in September following more than a year of construction and houses 30 emergency beds in 15 rooms. 7
