newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com A 22-year-old man from Coaldale was pronounced dead at the scene of a multi-vehicle collision Tuesday evening at the intersection of Highway 36 and 873 near Rainier, Alta. Brooks RCMP and first responders from Scandia and Rolling Hills responded to the collision that involved three vehicles, including a white van, semi-truck and SUV. RCMP Collision Re-Constructionist Investigators say the man was driving the white van westbound and failed to stop at a stop sign. Mounties say the van entered the intersection at a significant speed and struck an enclosed trailer attached to a semi-truck driving northbound. The trailer was then pushed into oncoming traffic which led to a southbound SUV collision with the trailer. The driver of the SUV had to be extricated from her vehicle and was rushed to local hospital via ambulance before later being transported to a Calgary hospital in stable condition. She has been identified as a 47-year-old female from the Vauxhall area. The driver of the semi was not injured. Police and first responders attended the scene for approximately five hours following the collision and traffic was detoured around the scene during the investigation. 11
