asmith@medicinehatnews.com Past president of the Historical Society of Medicine Hat & District Wes Krause will present on the Canadian Aviation Historical Society tonight at the Monarch Theatre. Part of the ongoing series of talks presented by the Historical Society, this event comes a bit closer to home, says Bruce Shepard with the society. “Wes worked with the city for many years, I think over 30 years, but he’s been a super volunteer as well. He’s been involved with a great many organizations. One of his main interests is our military heritage,” said Shepard. “So he and another group of like minded people set out and established this Medicine Hat chapter of the Canadian Aviation Historical Society.” This talk aims to teach more about the society and its goals, as well as form bonds between the two of the groups invested in local history. “He’s calling it the Lost 48, Medicine Hat chapter, Canadian Aviation Historical Society. And right off the bat, I’m intrigued,” said Shepard. “We thought we would have them come in and talk to us about what this new organization is trying to do, why they felt it necessary to set up a focused one, all of that.” The meeting will begin at 7p.m. with a short business meeting. Shepard predicts that Krause will begin speaking at roughly 7:3 0p.m. Following the program, those attending can follow the group over to the Cypress Club for coffee, tea and an opportunity to socialize. Everyone is welcome with no membership required, though those who would like to can purchase a membership to the historical society for $10. 9
