Wendy Scott, 41, and 43-year-old Kerrie Simms face multiple charges after the two suspected drug dealers were arrested by local organized crime officers who seized a large amount of illicit substances as well as three firearms during the execution of search warrants at two Medicine Hat homes.

ALERT members made the arrests Nov. 7 after executing warrants at a home in Riverside and in the North Flats and discovered a large amount of fentanyl, methamphetamine and cocaine with an estimated street value of $67,000, as well as two prohibited sawed-off shotguns and another firearm which was previously reported stolen.

In total, police seized 157 grams of fentanyl, 187 grams of methamphetamine, 36 grams of cocaine and 522 fentanyl patches. Officers also seized $10,675 in cash.

“This investigation aimed to cut off a drug supply line that was preying upon vulnerable and unhoused individuals,” said Staff Sgt. Ryan Thorburn. “ALERT will aggressively target these drug supply lines and repeat offenders in order to keep our downtown safe.”

Scott was charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and breach violations. Scott is also currently on multiple release and probation orders for previous drug offences and remained in custody where she was scheduled to appear before court yesterday.

Scott’s age also matches up with a Wendy Scott who had murder charges stayed in 2017 over a homicide in 2011, which she had originally pled guilty to and received a life sentence before a retrial was ordered in 2015. That retrial never went ahead after a Crown request for a stay was granted.

The News has not yet officially confirmed that this is the same Wendy Scott.

Simms was charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking, possession of proceeds of crime, possession of stolen property and multiple firearm offences. Simms was also held in custody and appeared before courts yesterday.

Police say all three firearms recovered will be submitted to the Provincial Firearms Lab for forensic testing and ballistics analysis to determine if they were used in any other crimes.

Officers remind residents who suspect drug or gang activity in their neighbourhoods to call 403-529-8481, or report anonymously online via the MHSP website.
