City provides update on small plane landing short of runway at Medicine Hat Airport on Wednesday

AHS confirms medics responded to a minor crash but did not have to transfer anyone to the hospital with injuries. All impacted airport users were notified following the incident. One WestJet flight from Calgary to Medicine Hat was delayed by three and a half hours as operations crews worked to clear the runway. The city and airport management are scheduled to provide further information to the public this morning.

The City of Medicine Hat has provided an update on the small plane that landed short of the main runway at the Medicine Hat Regional Airport on Wednesday.

At approximately 2:30 p.m., airport operations staff and emergency service providers responded to the incident of the small private plane landing short of the runway, coming to rest in the grass, unable to move without assistance. There were two occupants on the airplane, one crew member and one passenger.

AHS confirmed with the News on Wednesday that medics responded to the incident but no one was transported to hospital with injuries.

The city says the runway was closed for approximately two-hour period and the lone effect to the airport schedule was the arrival of WestJet’s scheduled flight from Calgary International Airport, which was delayed approximately three and half hours.
All other operations and flight schedules have returned to normal.
The city says information about the aircraft incident and any potential investigation are a matter for the Transportation Safety Board of Canada.
