Daylight Saving Time ends at 2 a.m. on Sunday, meaning Albertas will need to set their clock back one hour to make way for more light in the morning, and less in the evening.

In Canada, the history of Daylight Saving Time dates back to war times when the government introduced it to increase production during the First World War.

There was a short time after the war when DST expired, however it resumed during the Second World War and has remained in place since.

In Alberta the government formally set the province’s time zone by enacting the Daylight Saving Time Act in 1948.

In a narrow victory, the province kept Daylight Saving Time following the 2021 Alberta referendum vote, in which 50.24 per cent of Albertans voted to keep DST, while 49.76 per cent wanted to eliminate it.
