newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Last week Mounties in Brooks teamed up with members of the Southern Alberta District Community Response unit, the RCMP’s Remotely Piloted Aircraft System Program, known as K Division, and police dog services initiated a two-day operation targeting offenders involved in a surge of break and enters, rural thefts and motor vehicle thefts. Oct 22-23 police say officers used a variety of policing and investigational techniques to monitor and locate offenders involved in offences, resulting in several charges laid against four suspects in the operation called “Project Repetition.” “The arrests made under Project Repetition are directly related to a total of eight reported property crime occurrences within the City of Brooks and outlying areas,” said Cpl. Lagace, Brook RCMP Crime Reduction Unit.” Selbana Sultan, 20, of Brooks, was charged with break and enter and possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000. Sultan was arrested and held for a bail hearing and has been released by the courts with several conditions. Peter Coyner, 27, of Grand Prairie, has been charged with break and enter, theft over $5,000, possession of a prohibited weapon, possession of break-in instruments and attempted theft from motor vehicles. Coyner was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody until his next court appearance. Garrett Bohnet, 25, of Grand Prairie, was charged with two counts of break and enter. Additionally warrants were issued for Bohnet, who was later located near Grand Prairie in a stolen vehicle. Bohnet was arrested and taken into custody where he remains until his next court appearance. Yuol Bol, 26, of Brooks, was charged with possession of property obtained by crime under $5,000, fail to comply with release order and fail to comply with probation order. Bol was held for a bail hearing and remains in custody pending his next court appearance. Mounties say further charges are anticipated as investigations remain ongoing and thank the public for tips and surveillance footage which aided in the charges laid. “Brooks RCMP is committed to making property crime a priority. We will not stop engaging in proactive efforts until it is understood by criminals that this community is not a playground for their illicit activities,” said Lagace. RCMP encourages residents to report suspicious behaviour and property crime thrifts to police as it is important for officers to know locations that are being targeted to help engage in proactive crime-prevention efforts. 16
