newsdesk@medicinehatnews.com Premier Danielle Smith is in Saudi Arabia promoting the province’s responsible energy production before travelling to the United Arab Emirates to attend the Adu Dhabi International Petroleum Exhibition and Conference, which begins next Monday. Smith was notably absent as members of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta met for session this week, as she had already departed to Saudi Arabia. While in Saudi Arabia, Smith plans to meet with government leaders in the energy and health sectors as well as leaders managing sovereign wealth investments, as well as the oil industry, including executives from Saudi Aramco. During these meetings Smith will highlight the province’s traditional and emerging energy resources, emissions-management expertise and technology leadership. The premier will also promote Alberta as a competitive destination for investment across a range of sectors. At the beginning of November, Smith will then travel to Adu Dhabi to attend the world’s largest energy industry event held from Nov. 3-6. Smith will be joined by Joseph Schow, minister of jobs, economy, trade and immigration, to participate in the international conference and reinforce Alberta’s role in global energy security. Smith will also be joined by the Canadian Business Council Abu Dhabi reception to announce the opening of Alberta’s new trade office in Abu Dhabi. “We’ve been working to deepen engagement across the region and are taking the next step by opening our new international office in Abu Dhabi,” said Smith. “This mission is about building bridges and showcasing everything Alberta has to offer. By working together in areas like energy, technology, agriculture and trade, we can create opportunities that strengthen our economies and improve the lives of people in both regions. When it comes to Alberta, there truly is power in partnership.” The premier is also expected to participate in several roundtable and bilateral meetings, including a roundtable on collaboration, diversification and innovation on securing global oil market stability. Smith is expected to return to the province on Nov. 5. A full list of travel expenses will be posted on the province’s travel and expense disclosure webpage. 13
