Prairie Rose Public Schools has named its chair and vice-chair for the new term

Prairie Rose Public Schools held its first meeting as a board Tuesday, ready to take on the responsibility of students’ learning with a new chair and vice-chair.

Ward 5 trustee Patty Rooks will take on the role of chair following the meeting, with Ward 3 trustee Pam Cursons by her side as vice-chair. Rooks was formerly vice-chair to the board, taking on the senior role for the coming term.

Also new this term are trustees Janel Vossler and Darren Howes. Vossler was acclaimed to Ward 2 and will represent Schuler and Irvine Schools. She replaces former trustee Cathy Hogg, who did not seek re-election.

Howes fills an additional vacancy for Ward 3, representing I.F. Cox, Margaret Wooding, Parkside, Prairie Mennonite, Eagle Butte schools. He replaces Shauna VanderSpruit who also chose not to seek re-election.

The representative appointments are as follows:

Cursons will be taking on the executive role and Ward 6 trustee Nancy Haraga as alternate for the Alberta School Boards Association. Vossler was selected as council member and Ward 4 trustee Graeme Dennis as alternate for the Public School Boards Association of Alberta.

Cursons represents on the Teachers’ Employer Bargaining Association and Rooks will take part on the Rural Caucus of Alberta School Boards.
