Parent payment portal for financial supports during teacher strike opens

Parents of children aged 12 and under affected by the teacher strike can now access provincial payments through an online portal.

The portal has been made available on the provincial webpage starting earlier this week.

Parents are eligible to receive $30 per day per student for the duration of the disruption.

Families of children aged 12 and under with active Family Support for Children with Disabilities agreements are eligible for an additional $30 per student per day. Families of children 13-17 with an active FSCD agreement are eligible for $60 per child per day.

Payments will be issued by e-transfer on the last day of each month for the duration of the disruption, starting with Oct. 31. They will be retroactive to Oct. 6.

The province says the funding used for these financial supports is being redirected from teacher salaries that will not be paid during the labour dispute.
