Overnight closure of Bow Island ER will run through weekend

By Medicine Hat News on October 11, 2025.

The Bow Island Emergency Department is experiencing an unexpected personnel shortage and will temporarily close overnight.

The closure is expected to last from 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. starting Friday through the weekend. The clinic will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., returning to current weekday coverage on Monday.

Physicians will be on site at the Emergency Department on Monday through Thursday from 8-11:30 a.m. and 6-8 p.m. for emergent patient and low acuity walk-ins, and be on-call for patients arriving between 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. Nursing staff will remain on-site to provide care for remaining acute care patients and long-term care residents.

The Emergency Department expects it will return to weekend hours of 7 a.m. Fridays to 8 p.m. Mondays the following weekend.

Alberta Health Services says it is actively recruiting for positions in the community at this time.
