The Chief Mountain port of entry is closing for the season. The port of entry at Chief Mountain, located along Alberta’s Highway 6 on the boundary of Waterton Lakes National Park, will close for the winter on Tuesday at 6 p.m. It will reopen in the spring, running only from May to September due to the high elevation and winter conditions. According to the Canada Border Agency, the Chief Mountain port of entry welcomed 49,049 travellers into Canada during the 2025 season (as of Sept. 8), a decrease of more than 8,000 from the previous year. 5
