Second candidate enters mayoral race in Redcliff

Just three days before the end of the nomination period, a second candidate has joined the race for mayor in Redcliff.

Don McRobb joins councillor Chris Czember in a two-way contest for the mayoral seat. Until Friday afternoon, Czember was the only candidate running for mayor. In the absence of a competitor, he would have been acclaimed to the position without an election.

The two mayoral candidates will be joined on the ballot by eleven hopefuls for town council, a number that has more than doubled in that last days before the nomination window closes Monday at noon.

Four sitting councillors are running for re-election, James Allen, Cathy Crozier, Larry Leipert and Matthew St. Pierre. They are joined by Mayor Dwight Kilpatrick, who is running for council after two terms as mayor.

Six new names have also thrown their hat in the ring for a seat at the council table, Bernie Bakker, Bradie Burns, Shawna Gale, Korey Lindberg, Eric Solberg and Justin Van der Merwe.
